AFFENPINSCHER

Origin:
This breed was originally from Germany where it was bred during the 1600’s as a dog to hunt mice and rats.

Size:
Its a small breed, standing only at about 24-28cm (9 1/2-11 inches) and weighing about 3 or 4 kilos.

Personality:
This breed is often referred to as the Monkey Dog not only because of its face but also because of it’s personality. These dogs are said to have a sense of humour and are very self confident. Affenpinschers are big dogs in tiny bodies. They make very enthusiastic watchdogs and won’t be scared off by intruders or even larger dogs.

Coat:
The coat of these dogs naturally has the messy look that no amount of grooming can fix, but this does not mean that this dog should not be brushed. The coat should be given a good brush about twice a week to prevent it getting matted, and the hair around the ears and the feet should be trimmed to keep those areas clean and looking neat.
